He was a leader and one of the founding members of a rock group COOLS in 1975 but he left the group soon after he joined Toei film company and made his film debut with The Classroom of Terror in 1976. He moved to Yujiro Ishihara's production company in 1983 and won great popularity through his roles in the TV drama series Seibu Keisatsu (Western Police) and Abunai Deka (Dangerous Cops).
