She was best known for her roles in the films White Slavery (1985), Macho Dancer (1989), The Flor Contemplacion Story (1995), Service (2008), A Secret Affair (2012), Ma' Rosa (2016), Patay Na Si Hesus (2016), among others. For her work in the film Ma' Rosa, she won the Best Actress Award at 69th Cannes Film Festival in 2016, becoming the first Filipino and Southeast Asian actress to win the award.
