About Myron Cope

Born in Pittsburgh (January 23, 1929), Myron rejected America's huge markets - from New York to San Francisco - and the networks, and surely millions of dollars. For Myron, Pittsburgh and the Steelers meant happiness. "Why mess with happiness?" he told his family. Never has he regretted his choice. Myron fashioned successful careers as a newspaperman, magazine writer (mostly, Sports Illustrated), author of five books, and of course as a television-radio performer. His 35 years as color analyst in the Pittsburgh Steelers radio booth are by far an NFL record. Myron announced his retirement in June, 2005, at the age of 76. He died on February 27, 2008.
