A Wake hat leider ein Problem. Der Film ist leider etwas schwerfällig erzählt. Das ist leider schade, denn die Geschichte um den verstorbenen Sohn einer Familie ist voller interessanter Facetten. Da ist die jüngste Tochter, die sich nichts sehnlicher wünscht als eine perfekte Trauerfeier. Da ist die älteste Tochter, die schon immer ihre Probleme in ihrer Familie hatte und mehr über den Tod des Familienmiglieds weiß, als dem Rest der Familie lieb ist. Da ist Mason, der Zwillingsbruder des verstorbenen der mit seinem Bruder eine ganz besondere Beziehung hatte. Dann ist da Jameson, der Freund des verstorbenen Sohnes. Und Freund ist hier wirklich als Freund gemeint, denn Michael, so der Name des Sohnes war scheinbar homosexuell. All diese Facetten könnten wie gesagt einen wunderbaren Film bilden, wenn da eben nicht diese Schwerfälligkeit in der Erzählstruktur wäre. Nein, der Film ist kein Film der besonder schnell erzählt werden musste, aber etwas dynamischer hätte es schon sein können. So springt der Film leider mehr von Konflikt zu Konflikt, lässt viele Aspekte für sich alleine stehen und schafft es nur schwer die Geschichten und Probleme der einzelnen Charaktere miteinander zu verknüpfen. Zum Glück steht die bewegende Geschichte über diesen Problemen und schafft es, dass A Wake so dennoch eine schone kleine Produktion ist, der man eine Chance geben kann. [Sneakfilm.de]
