Death Race Synopsis

Terminal Island, New York: 2020. Overcrowding in the US penal system has reached a breaking point. Prisons have been turned over to a monolithic Weyland Corporation, which sees jails full of thugs as an opportunity for televised sport. Adrenalized inmates, a global audience hungry for violence and a spectacular, enclosed arena come together to form the 'Death Race', the biggest, most brutal event.

A massive departure from the original, _Death Race_ keeps the cars and kills and forgoes virtually everything else from _2000_. Fun in a very different manner, but still fun, and that's what counts. _Final rating:★★★ - I personally recommend you give it a go._

Loud and brash but ultimately entertaining thanks mostly to Jason Statham and some decent racing sequences (well, when the camera wasn't jittery or quick edits). Also some love for Joan Allen making for a fine villain and never a bad thing with Ian McShane even in a supporting role. Nothing great but pretty much well within Paul W.S. Anderson's wheelhouse. **3.5/5**
