Two families lived in one house - a rich general and his daughter Emilia upstairs, and his landlord and his son George in the basement apartment. The two children liked each other very much, but their friendship was thwarted by Emilie's mother. So when one day the rich patron discovered Georg's talent and took him with him to Italy, Georg carried a piece of bitterness in his heart.
