Idol on Parade is a Comedy movie that A rock'n'roll idol is drafted into the wrong regiment....
The escapades of rock 'n roller "Jeep Jackson" (Anthony Newley) after he is called up, but posted to the "Wrexham Foot" regiment by mistake. Lionel Jeffries ("Burton Bassett") is his commanding officer, and together with William Bendix ("Sgt. Lush") has to try and knock him into shape. I'm not sure why the otherwise talented Newley would ever have agreed to do this. It's a mess. Bendix and Jeffries are way off form in a comedy drama that staggers from one dud scenario to another. The songs - not helped by some seriously out-of-synch dubbing - are pretty mundane and the whole thing drags from the "on Monday, on Tuesday...". opening bars. It does teach you how to maintain a bearskin hat, but that's about all!
