Story Breakdown

The horror unfolds through carefully crafted atmosphere and escalating dread. Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren encounter what would become one of the most sensational cases from their files. The fight for the soul of a young boy takes them beyond anything they'd ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense. Director Michael Chaves uses both psychological terror and visceral scares, building tension through what's unseen as much as what's shown. The pacing allows for breathing room between scares, making each frightening moment more effective.

Narrative Structure

• Opening Hook: An unsettling prologue sets the ominous tone of The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, hinting at the terror to come. Michael Chaves establishes the rules of this world before introducing Vera Farmiga as Lorraine Warren to its dangers.
• Character Arc: The main character shows growth throughout the story, though some supporting characters could have been more fully realized. Vera Farmiga's arc is present but occasionally predictable.
• Climax & Resolution: The final act escalates the terror to its peak, forcing Vera Farmiga to confront the source of horror directly. Michael Chaves's resolution provides adequate resolution.
