"The Guardian" is a well made film and it is enjoyable enough to watch, but it ultimately fails to deliver the goods. Your pulse will certainly not be racing and nor will your heart be pounding at the chilling terror of it all simply because we have seen this sort of thing countless times before. We know from the outset nothing untoward is going to happen to either the young couple nor to their delightfully charming infant and we have seen the succession of old creaking horror standbys - the nightmares, the assorted scare tactics and so forth - that are now faithfully dusted off and trundled out for our entertainment. The whole enterprise reveals itself to be pretty tepid at best and this is the reason the film will fail to excite even the easily excitable and it ultimately feels as though all we are really doing is just going through the moves of a horror film.
